She slowly made her way toward the old gazebo, clutching her scarf tightly against the cold wind while holding a large handbag with the other hand. He walked next to her.
“There it is, Frank. This is where you proposed, remember? Oh, they had to fix it up some since that day, but I’m glad they didn’t tear it down. Aren’t you, Frank?”
He nodded and smiled.
They walked around the gazebo together. She stopped and pulled an urn out of her handbag. “Well, I guess this is it, Frank.”
He nodded. They walked around the gazebo again as she poured the ashes into the winter-weary bushes. She put the empty urn back into her handbag. “Good-bye Frank.”
He was no longer beside her. She walked away from the gazebo alone, clutching her scarf tightly against the cold wind.

Awesome, Loretta. That’s some twist but it’s seamless an natural. Love it. ❤ ❤ ❤

Great story but very sad at the end. I like how you had Frank as a ghost walking beside her until his ashes had been spread.

very nice. All the words so clearly painted the sadness of the scene.

I like the way you have written the one-sided dialogue and build up to the unexpected and sad ending. The memories seem all the more meaningful once we find out that Frank has passed away – as does the choice of site for his ashes. Nicely written.

Really nice story. A great way to have him by her side as she says her last goodby.

One could see Frank nodding his head in agreement, for the love of his life. Although a sad tale, the ending was sweet, sad and in its own way, happy! Nicely penned!
