They waited for their call in the outer hall.

“Shouldn’t be long now,” James said.

Laura shook her foot. “Honey, can you tighten my shoe a notch?”

“Sure!” James bent down and refastened Laura’s sandal. “There you go.” He stood up. Laura’s foot flew upwards alongside his hand and she landed on her backside.

“Oh crap, my watch is caught on your shoe!” James shook his hand, causing Laura’s leg to shake as well. She lay helpless on the floor, skirt wrapped around her waist.

“You’re on!” Basil flittered into the hall, clipboard in hand. “Oh my!” He averted his eyes.

“James, please do something,” Laura yelled.

James tried to unhook his watch from her shoe, to no avail. He then tried to undo Laura’s shoe, but the watch was in the way. “Um, we have a problem.”

“Wardrobe malfunction,” Basil sighed. He flittered out of the hall.

James then noticed the cameraman. “Um, you’re not going to air this, are you?”

“We already did,” stated the cameraman. “This is a live show, remember?”

It was mid April and the snow continued to fall, covering everything except the little cottage with the colourful ivy growing around the blue door. The snow would not accumulate there.

Polar Vortex was furious. This northern country was at his mercy, yet this little cottage refused to bow to him. He decided to seek out its occupant and challenge its sorcery.

With a blast of cold air, he arrived at the door and knocked. “Who here has the arrogance to stand against me, Polar Vortex?” he yelled.

Behind the door, a soft voice answered “Sir, you dare not enter this premises lest you suffer the consequences.”

Polar Vortex was livid and yelled, “I will enter!” With a winter blast, he blew down the door. A blinding light spilled out, scorching him until he melted into a warm puddle. The snow suddenly stopped and the northern country began its spring thaw as the temperature rose.

Sun smiled as the Polar Vortex puddle evaporated and headed back to the North Pole.
